Man in hot tub

You've treated yourself to a luxurious new hot tub. It's fully installed and set up, and you're enjoying your first dip, floating in the soothing water on a clear evening.

It feels incredible. The stresses of your day are melting away. You don't want to get out. But, alas, you must. You can't stay in the hot water forever.

Still, as you step out of the water, you might be wondering how often you can enjoy your shiny new hot tub with no ill effects. Weekly? Twice weekly, dare you dream?

How does every day sound?

It's OK to hot tub every day!

It might sound too good to be true, but daily hot tub dips are not only safe, they're recommended if you want to rapidly reap the rewards of owning a hot tub. But maybe you'd like to know more before you take the plunge?

Benefits of a daily hot tub session

If you've already bought (or are considering purchasing) a hot tub, you've no doubt heard about all the benefits they offer, but here's a quick recap in case you haven't...

  • Stress relief
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved sleep
  • Pain relief
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Improved insulin sensitivity
  • Increased calorie burn

...and those are just the big ones.

Of course, you'll experience positive results even if you use your hot tub less frequently. But establishing a regular routine of daily hot tubbing can fast-track the bodily benefits listed above.

Whether it's a morning plunge or an evening soak, incorporating your hot tub into your daily routine will be both a rewarding experience in the moment and a soothing form of long-term therapy.

When to skip your daily dip

While daily hot tub use can bring fantastic benefits and is recommended for many, there are certain situations where you may want to skip the dip. These include:

  • Pregnancy (especially during the first trimester)

  • Epilepsy and other seizure disorders, unless you're accompanied by a trusted responsible adult

  • Low blood pressure

  • Skin conditions such as rashes, cuts or open sores

  • A urinary tract infection (UTI)

If you have any concerns or other conditions (such as heart disease) it's a good idea to check with your doctor before you get in the hot tub.

But is it truly safe to use your hot tub daily?

Absolutely!

In fact, the guidelines for safe hot tub use remain the same whether you're using your spa every day or just occasionally:

  • Watch the heat! You're a human in a hot tub, not a lobster on the boil. Make sure the temperature of the water doesn't exceed 40°C.

  • Don't stay in too long. If the temperatures are lower you can linger a little longer, but you generally want to limit your hot tub sessions to 15 minutes max.

  • Stay hydrated. Hot water makes you sweat just like hot air does, but being immersed in water can mask that sensation, so you may not realise that dehydration is setting in. We recommend keeping a bottle of water handy when you're enjoying your hot tub.

  • Consider showering afterwards to cleanse and cool off a little. Make sure the water isn't too cold, though - the shock of going straight from very hot water to very cold water can affect your blood pressure.

  • Exit the hot tub immediately if you experience any nausea, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, dizziness or skin reddening.

If you're going to be in your hot tub every day, it's important to look after it properly - and of course you'll need to keep the water clean and pristine.

Don't worry, though. Keeping your hot tub in tip-top shape is easier than you might think, and here at Premier Hot Tubs we provide everything you could possibly need, from pH test strips and sanitisers to a range of spare parts that will help you to keep your hot tub in perfect working order.
