Filling your hot tub with water might sound like a simple task, but there are actually a lot of things that can go wrong if you don’t do it correctly.

Read our handy guide to find out the best way to fill a hot tub.

How to fill a hot tub: Top tips

Don’t use hot water

You might think using water that is already hot will help speed the process along. It won’t. In fact, it will likely result in you being unable to use your hot tub while you wait for it to be repaired. This is because filling your hot tub with hot water can actually damage the heater sensers, so it is not advised.

Position the hose in with the filter

Filling up your hot tub is not as simple as leaving the hose in the tub and waiting for it to fill up. When adding water to your hot tub, we recommend filling it through the filter housing so that the water goes through the pipework to clear any build-up of air. If you were to simply fill the tub with water, it could cause an airlock which can damage the efficiency of your hot tub.

Fill to about halfway up the filter cage

It’s important that your hot tub isn’t underfilled because low water levels can cause air to be sucked into the system. This will result in water flow and heater issues.

To prevent this, make sure you fill your hot tub to about halfway up the grill / filter cage.

After your hot tub has been refilled it’s important to keep an eye on your water levels, even if you aren’t using it. Your hot tub shouldn’t lose very much water, so if you notice the water level has dropped significantly since you filled it, there may be an issue, such as a leak.

Drain and refill your hot tub every three months

For best results, you should drain and refill your hot tub water every three to four months, depending on how often you use it.

Before filling your tub again, we recommend giving it a deep clean using our Premier Flush Cleaner. You can also use our Premier Surface Cleaner to clean the spa shell.
