Buy a Cover

The simplest and easiest way to reduce your hot tub running costs and energy consumption is by buying a good-quality thermal cover. Insulating hot tub covers help reduce heat loss which in turn helps you heat the water quicker using less energy.

However, it is important to keep in mind that when your hot tub cover becomes saturated due to condensation, it loses up to 90% of its thermal value. The same can be said for if your cover is cracked, heavy, worn or poorly fitting. All of these factors can render your cover rather useless in terms of saving precious energy and money.

Lower Temperatures

We understand that it may be tempting to keep your hot tub on the highest temperature possible, however, by turning your general usage temperature down by just a couple of degrees you can help reduce your energy costs. In fact, for every degree you lower the water temperature, you could save 10% on your tub energy bill, making your hot tub far more energy efficient.

We recommend keeping your hot tub at a temperature between 35 to 37°C for optimum relaxation and energy efficiency.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that you should turn your hot tub down between each use however, as heating the water back up every time you plan to go in will use even more energy than leaving the tub on high temperatures.

Turn Off Air Controls

Air controls allow air into the jet stream in your tub which can help add power however it does have a slight cooling effect. If your hot tub has a large jet pump to circulate water, we recommend setting air controls to ‘off’ when the tub is not in use to prevent needless cooling.

Keep in mind that having your hot tub running nonstop might also dramatically raise your electricity costs each month. Particularly in the winter, maintaining the water’s temperature can consume a significant amount of energy.

Keep The Filters Clean

A dirty filter will impede the flow of water in your hot tub and force the heaters to work harder than they have to. It’s therefore crucial to clean your hot tub’s filters on a regular basis to maximise the energy efficiency of your hot tub.

We recommend cleaning your filter with a filter cleaner every 2-4 weeks depending on your usage. Try our filter cleaner, specially formulated to break down debris and grease from your hot tub filter for a more energy efficient and hygienic tub.
